He earned a degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Almería in 2003 and a PhD in Computer Engineering from the same university in 2008. During his postdoctoral period, he spent three years working on the PSE-ARFRISOL strategic project on bioclimatic architecture and solar cooling. He then spent two years at the University of Seville on a Juan de la Cierva postdoctoral fellowship (2011 call), followed by a Ramón y Cajal postdoctoral fellowship (2013 call) at the University of Almería. His main research interests are predictive, repetitive and classical PID control, with practical applications to solar-powered plants and energy efficiency in buildings. He co-authored the book Comfort Control in Buildings (Springer, 2014). He has co-authored 47 scientific papers in indexed journals and more than 50 conference papers. His h-index is 21 in Google Scholar, 17 in Scopus and 15 in Web of Science. He has co-supervised three doctoral theses and taken part in publicly and privately funded national and international R&D projects. He is a member of the Automatic Control, Robotics and Mechatronics research group at the University of Almería (TEP-197, Andalusian Research Plan) and of the Spanish Committee of Automatic Control (CEA). He has served on the organising committees of the 27th Jornadas de Automática (2006), the 2nd National Symposium on Horticultural Engineering (2016) and the 16th CEA Symposium on Control Engineering (2018).
